Since we’ve started Jiu-Jitsu in 2001, we’ve seen many Europeans try and make Jiu-Jitsu a sport for everyone.
We’ve had many competitions where everybody can go to compete and improve himself
Each year people put a lot of effort and trouble in making competitions happening. This year we had the Dutch Open, BIG, Brussel Open, Le Havre Open, Luxemburg Open, Hot Blood Cup, Paris Grappling and many others. Price to compete was never more than 25euros, and the most expensive ones had price money (Dutch Open, BIG)
And here comes the Brazilian Federation, organising the European Championships and charging 80euros (EIGHTY euros!). Unless you didn't register then they only charge 120 euros!
This is ridiculous!
Out of (a lot of) experience: competitions make you money!
Competitions where you charge 80euros, make you rich!
One example: In june 2002 we organised the Antwerp Open in Anwerp, Belgium. We had 70 competitors, who payed 20euros each. There where expensive cups for everyone, a first aid post, and 2 free drinks for everyone.
After all expenses we had 500euros net profit
Following months and years, we organised together with our former teacher the European Cup (November 2002), 2nd European Cup (November 2003) and Submission Grappling Germany, all (even the unsuccessfull grappling) competitions made profit
Our point: Competitions should be cheaper. We don’t like paying 35euros for a competition like the German Open, we will not ever pay 80euros to compete
Next thing you know, this gets common practise and you’ll be paying ridiculous amounts of money to compete, all year round
- We are asking all people to not go compete in the European Championships
- We are asking everybody to voice their concern about such prices
- Support your local and reasonably priced championships instead
